The breach did not compromise any banking or credit card information. Concurrently, the city faced an internet outage that has disabled all online services, including payment systems and email the morning of the same day. The IT department is working to resolve these allegedly separate issues, and the city will provide updates once services are restored. Scheduled city meetings will proceed despite the disruptions.
In a statement, City of Columbus Director of Security and Risk, Mike Richardson stated, “We are working to investigate this isolated incident and taking measures to put further safeguards in place to mitigate future risk to the city’s cyber infrastructure.”
