Alera Group, Inc. has recently notified individuals of a large breach in 2024.
Alera recently filed a data breach notice with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on July 29th, 2025.
According to Alera’s website, they also published an online notice and began reaching out to victims on May 21st, 2025. At that time, no notice had been provided to the HHS, meaning the incident would have been difficult for news organizations to discover or report on.
Alera reported the incident was the result of hacking in their network server, ultimately impacting 155,567 individuals.
The notice stated that impacted information included names, addresses, demographic information, dates of birth, birth/marriage certificates, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account or credit card information, passport or other ID information, medical information, insurance information, biometric information, and username and password information.
Alera stated that the incident first began in 2024, when an unauthorized actor accessed Alera’s technology environment between July 19th, 2024 and August 4th, 2024. Alera learned of the incident in August 2024 and immediately began an investigation, which concluded on April 28th, 2025.
In response to the incident, Alera said they have “taken steps to secure our environment and completed a thorough and comprehensive investigation…We have implemented additional cybersecurity measures to further protect our environment.” The group added, “The confidentiality, privacy and security of information in our care is among our highest priorities.”
Alera Group is a business associate and works with companies to provide financial and insurance programs, leading them to have access to PHI.
Alera is encouraging affected individuals to review account statements and take advantage of free credit monitoring reports. Outside of this, impacted individuals who feel that the incident has resulted in identity theft or fraud may wish to pursue legal remedies and can contact a lawyer to do so.
